APPLICATION OF DISTANCE MEASUREMENT METHODS FOR MINE DETECTION
Distance-based methodologies for mine detection leverage various principles of distance measurement to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of identifying landmines in both military and humanitarian operations. These approaches employ physical sensors—such as radar, magnetic, acoustic, and optical systems—to measure the distance between the sensor and potential targets, thereby enabling the detection and localization of mines. Technologies like ground-penetrating radar (GPR) and electromagnetic induction (EMI) have demonstrated effectiveness in identifying mines at different depths. Furthermore, recent advancements in machine learning and artificial intelligence have significantly improved the interpretation of sensor data, facilitating mine detection in complex and cluttered environments. This methodology presents a promising solution for increasing safety, reducing manual labor, and accelerating the clearance process. In this study, global practices in explosive detection were analyzed, key indicators for mine detection were identified, and the potential application of innovative technologies in this field was evaluated. Emphasis was placed on methods based on dielectric conductivity, as well as radio and thermal radiation, due to their effectiveness in remote mine detection. Landmine contamination continues to pose a severe challenge to national security, humanitarian safety, and post-conflict reconstruction efforts.
