Breeding waders of Mykolayiv region
Breeding waders of Mykolayiv region. - K.A. Redinov, P.S. Panchenko, Z.O. Petrovich, O.O. Formanyuk. - Berkut. 34 (1). 2025. - Data on the distribution, abundance, migrations, wintering, breeding ecology and conservation of 11 wader species for the period from 1897 to 2024 were summarised and analysed. The status of 3 more species, which were mentioned in literature sources as breeding, but not substantiated, was considered. The following species are regularly breeding: Stone-Curlew, Oystercatcher, Black-winged Stilt, Pied Avocet, Northern Lapwing, Little Ringed and Kentish Plovers and Common Redshank. Western Curlew and Black-winged Pratincole have disappeared from breeding, and Collared Pratincole breeds only in certain years. Information on Woodcock, Common Snipe and Common Sandpiper is insufficient to grant them the status of breeding species. The number of Oystercatcher, Black-winged Stilt, Pied Avocet, Little Ringed and Kentish Plovers fluctuates over the years, but is relatively stable and does not cause concern. The number of Black-winged Stilt has even increased slightly since the 1990s. Populations of Northern Lapwing and Common Redshank significant declined in the 21st century, compared to the 1980s. It is difficult to judge changes in the number of Stone-Curlew, given the limited data. [Ukrainian].
