Soil fungal turnover without functional loss during savanna-to-forest transitions in an African savanna
We studied differences in soil fungal communities across savanna-forest boundaries in an African savanna and found that the savanna-to-forest transition caused significant taxonomic turnover in fungal community composition without altering diversity or functional group abundances. These findings suggest broad functional redundancy in this savanna, despite fungal communities reorganizing during vegetation change.
