Coronation Day, Commemorative Banknotes, and the Emblem of the Royal Coronation Ceremony B.E. 2562 (2019)
This article highlights the significance of Coronation Day (Wan Chatramongkol) as a royal tradition that symbolizes the complete accession of the Thai monarch through ancient coronation rites. It focuses on the Royal Coronation Ceremony of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn (Rama X) on 4 May 2019, which has since been designated as the official Coronation Day. The article also examines the emblem of the Coronation Ceremony, designed by the Fine Arts Department, and the commemorative banknotes issued by the Bank of Thailand. Both the emblem and the banknotes are not merely commemorative objects but serve as historical, artistic, and cultural records, embodying national memory and reflecting the profound bond between the monarchy and the people. They further emphasize the enduring concept of the “Dhammaraja” (Righteous King) in modern Thai society.
