Refined Correlation for Predicting the Critical Temperature of High-Boiling Normal and Branched Alkanes

A comparative analysis is carried out of the most well-known calculation models developed for determining the critical temperature of hydrocarbons, primarily those in the homologous series of n-alkanes. The main advantages and disadvantages of correlations proposed in the literature are noted. A refined correlation is proposed for determining the critical temperature of normal and branched alkanes, applicable to homologs with the number of carbon atoms from NC = 3–7 and practically up to 100 or more. A comparison is provided between the results of calculations using the proposed correlation and those based on correlations by other authors. The advantage of the proposed correlation for the critical temperature of individual compounds is highlighted compared to polynomial and complex nonlinear models, namely, the ability to extend the adopted approach to compounds of other structural groups and to predict the critical temperatures of homologous series with limited or even no experimental reference data.
