Preparation of corrosion-resistant CoMIx/SA superhydrophobic coating based on ZIF-67 modified rosette-like microstructure on zinc alloy surface

Purpose This study aims to modify the superhydrophobic surface by introducing ZIF-67, thereby reducing the high adhesion caused by the “rose-like” microstructure and enhancing the corrosion resistance of the zinc alloy surface. Design/methodology/approach A CoMIx/SA superhydrophobic coating was fabricated on zinc alloy via chemical etching, in situ growth and immersion methods, characterized by energy dispersive spectrometry, scanning electron microscopy, XRD and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Findings The characterization results indicate that ZIF-67 successfully modified the superhydrophobic surface, reducing the high adhesion caused by the “rose petal effect” and improving the corrosion resistance of the zinc alloy surface. CoMIx composite superhydrophobic coatings provide 98.78% corrosion inhibition compared to zinc substrates. Originality/value The composite CoMIx/SA superhydrophobic coating exhibits excellent corrosion resistance. By introducing ZIF-67 to improve the properties of the superhydrophobic film, this study provides a new approach for preparing superhydrophobic coatings.
