Anthropological Methods in the Ingrian Finns Exhibition at the Juhan Kuus Documentary Photo Centre
Abstract: This presentation explores the anthropological methods applied in curating the exhibition “Ingrians' Hidden Stories” at the Juhan Kuus Documentary Photo Centre in Tallinn, Estonia. The exhibition highlights the experiences of the Ingrian Finns, a minority community shaped by displacement, repression, and cultural resilience. The PowerPoint outlines various anthropological approaches, including ethnographic documentation, oral history collection, and visual anthropology. It considers how these tools were used to capture community narratives, preserve intangible heritage, and present vernacular voices within a museum context. Although designed as a class presentation, the slides offer a concise overview of how anthropological practice intersects with exhibition-making and cultural representation.
