Dataset for the map of legal and (self-)regulatory frameworks for media in the EU
According to the MeDeMAP proposal, D3.1 presents (1.) the analytical model to collect and assess data on media legislation, regulatory standards and self-regulatory measures in the EU 27, and (2.) the dataset compiled in accordance with the model. The analytical model is based on the discursive-material approach to democracy and media provided by Deliverable 2.1. The dataset draws on 21 European and international studies and databases and is the result of a source-critical assessment of the available data, with a focus on the validity and comparability of the data. It will be continuously updated and expanded with further data, not least based on the qualitative research in Task 3.2. The dataset provides the basis for (1.) the construction of several sections of the proposed map of political information environments in the European Union, and (2.) the qualitative research to be carried out in Task 3.2 in order to find out to what extent and based on which notions of democracy and which democratic roles of the media the legal and (self-)regulating frameworks conditions in EU Member States contribute to securing and strengthening a democratic media system. The qualitative research will mainly focus on the ten countries of the consortium. For this research the first version of the analytical model presented here will be revised in accordance with Deliverable D2.2.
