Utility of the minimally invasive cardiac surgery for treating congenital heart defect in a small child weighing below 10 kg
Long-term prognosis of children with congenital heart defects (CHDs) has significantly improved of late. Better diagnostic facilities, enhanced understanding of the cardiac defects and hemodynamics, and evolved transcatheter and surgical strategies all improve CHD outcomes. Minimally invasive cardiac surgery (MICS) has proven benefits in adults undergoing cardiac surgeries, and it appears to be an attractive alternative for children with CHD. Here, we report a case of a toddler with a weight of 9 kg who underwent surgical closure of her cardiac defect using the MICS technique.
