Evaluating the Effectiveness of Alternative Delivery Modes in Teaching and Learning: Teacher Perceptions During Calamities and Class Disruptions

This study examined the effectiveness of Alternative Delivery Modes (ADM) in teaching and learning based on the perceptions of teachers in Lupon West District, Davao Oriental, particularly during periods of class disruptions and calamities. Utilizing a quantitative research design, data were collected from 133 teachers through a structured survey instrument. Descriptive statistics were used to determine the extent of ADM implementation, while paired samples t-tests were employed to assess significant differences in perceptions before and after ADM implementation. Effect sizes were calculated using Cohen’s d to determine the magnitude of change. Findings revealed that teachers perceived the extent of ADM implementation to be moderately extensive overall, with blended learning rated most favorably. Student engagement and comprehension were moderately improved, whereas academic performance was perceived to be less extensively impacted. The paired samples t-test showed statistically significant differences (p < .001) in all variables, and Cohen’s d indicated large effect sizes across domains, confirming the practical significance of ADM implementation. The study concludes that ADM has significantly enhanced teaching and learning outcomes and recommends further capacity-building, infrastructure development, and instructional design improvements. Future research may include the perspectives of students and parents to gain a more comprehensive understanding.
