Architectures of Coherence: Motif-Driven Patterns for Stable, Interpretable, and Ethically Governed AI
This record publishes the paper Architectures of Coherence, a standalone framework that translates four historical motifs—Roman Law, Gothic Architecture, Gregorian Chant, and Scholastic Logic—into concrete design patterns for building AI systems that are stable, interpretable, and ethically governed. The paper defines practical metrics for coherence, drift, and motif alignment; proposes modules inspired by each motif (e.g., “buttress” supports for stable depth, two-column debate heads for contradiction control, and mode-aware regularization for long-form outputs); and introduces an Ethical Continuity Protocol centered on sovereignty, layered consent, safety gating, adversarial resilience, and pluralism. It includes a motif-to-mechanism mapping table, a state-space view of motif “attractors,” toy but consistent result sketches to guide adoption, and a concise glossary for non-specialists. The work is intended for researchers and practitioners seeking actionable, human-readable patterns for reliability and governance without requiring an external tooling stack.
