Responsible Artificial Intelligence across Borders (RAIxB): a community dialogue

The disciplinary theme of artificial intelligence (AI) is not just a transformational idea or technological application but an emerging institutional apparatus reshaping society globally. In recent years, there have been increasing research activities and policy initiatives aimed at developing Responsible and Trustworthy AI frameworks that support the alignment of AI technologies with diverse societal values, user requirements, and communities of practice. However, the complexities of human values, preferences, and experiences make it difficult to align AI equitably. As a result of the above conceptual challenge, we seek answers to the question: What are the common AI research and development themes that connect different contexts and cultures? Building on well-established collaborative initiatives for fostering practice-oriented communities across boundaries, e.g., the ACM SIGCHI Across Borders Initiative (SABI) and the Human-Computer Interaction Across Borders (HCIxB), we seek to initiate a similar initiative (the Responsible Artificial Intelligence across Borders: RAIxB) where practitioners could develop themes of common interests and work collaboratively on impact projects that address specific societal issues.
