Conceptualizing the influence of Event Quality on the Quality of Life of Residents and the Mediating role of Event Experiences – A case study of the Goa River Marathon

Abstract The influence of events and their dimensions has been researched with respect to economic, social, environmental and cultural benefits. The objective of this paper is to propose the study of the relationship between the events as represented by different dimensions and the quality of life (QOL) of residents, mediated by various experiences. The propositions are based on Bottom-up Spillover Theory that explains the significance of experiences and their built-up impact on life domains, which affects overall life satisfaction. The exploratory study conducted, reinforced the role of experiences as mediators between dimensions of events and quality of life (QOL) of residents in the state of Goa, India. The proposed model is built based in conjunction with the literature review and exploratory study. The model encourages assessments at both the broad life satisfaction level (QOL) and at the domain satisfaction level, of the various dimensions of events, thereby enriching knowledge in the area of events and QOL. The study will have implications for the organisers and the Government of the host country, for creating magnificent experiences through organising events and win local support for continued event organisation. The model can be extrapolated to other stakeholders in the future.
