The Fundamental Symmetry Paradox in Molecular Vibrations: A Representation-Theoretic Account

This result was derived independently by me; I later discovered an essentially identical derivation in Acta Cryst (1979) A35 703-713, and Acta Cryst (1978) B34 1793-1803, J. Mol. Spect. 17, 365-367 (1965). I’m posting this brief write-up so the work and exposition don’t go to waste.
