200G Bi-Direction Self-Coherent PON Based on Pre-Amplified Stokes Vector Receiver
In this paper, we propose and experimentally demonstrate a novel bidirectional C-band 200G pre-amplified self-coherent passive optical network (SC-PON) capable of supporting symmetric 200-Gb/s/λ transmission in both upstream and downstream directions. To mitigate the reduction in receiver sensitivity resulting from co-transmitted carriers in self-coherent systems, a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) is deployed at the ONU side before a Stokes Vector Receiver. To validate the feasibility, we conducted a proof-of-concept experiment using a pre-amplified 50-GBaud SC-PON architecture. In the downstream transmission, we achieved a data rate of 200-Gb/s/λ over 20-km of standard single-mode fiber (SMF) with a receiver sensitivity of -19.5-dBm. For the upstream direction, the system demonstrated a sensitivity of -20.8 dBm at a bit error rate (BER) of 2×10−2 under 15% SD-FEC. Remarkably, the bidirectional system achieved a power budget exceeding 30-dB in both directions, surpassing the requirements of ITU-T class N1 and IEEE class PR(X) standards.
