GC-MS Analysis of Bioactive Compounds in Methanolic Extract of Xanthium strumarium L. from Baramati Tehsil, Maharashtra (India)

The increasing reliance on herbal medicines stems from their minimal side effects and therapeutic efficacy. Medicinal plants serve as crucial resources in pharmaceutical and biotechnological research for the development of novel drugs. In this study, the bioactive compounds present in the methanolic leaf extracts of Xanthium strumarium L. were identified and evaluated using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). GC-MS is a powerful analytical tool that enables precise identification of phyto constituents and their pharmacological relevance. The results revealed the presence of multiple bioactive compounds exhibiting diverse pharmacological activities, including anticancer, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties. These findings validate the traditional medicinal use of Xanthium strumarium L., highlighting their potential applications in modern medicine and drug discovery.
