The Nazarene and Tatooine: The Christ Child and the Skywalker Twins as Chosen Children Protected in Obscurity
This paper explores thematic parallels between the infancy narratives of Jesus in the Gospels and the early lives of Luke and Leia in Star Wars. Each narrative presents a "chosen child" who is hidden in obscurity to protect them from imminent threats, revealing archetypal patterns of divine protection and human vulnerability. Both narratives feature chosen ones who emerge from obscurity as adults to confront their enemy and fulfill their destiny. Through a close reading of biblical texts and narrative motifs, this study illuminates how mythic structures shape contemporary popular culture and how popular culture can reflect biblical themes.
