To Investigate The Relationship Between Demographic and Socio-economic Factor and Economic status; A Case of Dire Dawa City Administration

The study tries to investigate the inter dependence of the economic status of households on the demographic and socio-economic factors such as; gender of household’s head, age of household, level of education and saving practice of the households. Data was collected in diredawa city Administration (Kebele07) from 150 households using questionnaire and two-stage cluster sampling method was used for sample size determination. Inferential statistics, logistic regression model, was applied to predict the association between independent and dependent variables and also We would be used chi-square test to determine whether there is significant association among socio-economic and demographic factors and economic status of the households. Based on the results of the chi-squared test and logistic regression analysis, it appears that there is a significant relationship among high economic status and several socio-economic and demographic variables. Age, Education level, saving practice and households saving method were found to be correlated with high economic status, with older individuals and those with higher education levels being more likely to have high economic status. On the other hand saving practice was found to be statistically significant relationship with economic status, i.e., individuals with a higher level of saving practice tend to have higher economic status than those with lower saving practice in the sample studied. However, it is important to note that this result should be interpreted with caution. In conclusion, the results suggest that there are several socio-economic and demographic factors that play a role in determining an individual's economic status, with age, education level, household saving method and saving practice being particularly important. While marital status and gender were not significant predictors of economic status, and therefore, they do not have a major impact on an individual's economic status.
