Protecting Waterside Critical National Infrastructure.
With 80% of goods shipped by sea, many key Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) facilities, such as power stations and desalination plants, are integral to shipping operations. It is vital that this infrastructure remains safe and secure. The security of seas, ports, harbours, offshore facilities, and waterside and waterborne CNI remains a high priority. Criminals and terrorists are aware of the difficulty of keeping such large swathes of water safe from their illegal activities and use that knowledge to their advantage. Commercial ports and the shipping industry face an increasing threat of criminal gangs using divers to attach blisters on vessels to transport contraband globally as well as ever-evolving narcotic submersible vehicle deployment to evade governmental officials. Deterring and defeating these criminal enterprises is a constant battle but the intelligent use of advanced technology has been used to detect, identify, and defeat them.
