Lipid, Protein, and Carbohydrate Content of Microalgae Isolated from Various Aquatic Sources in the Dharashiv Region, Maharashtra, India

The objective of this study was to analyze the biochemical composition of microalgae isolated from water samples collected from several sites in the Dharashiv district of Maharashtra, India. A modified Bligh and Dyer approach was used to extract the total lipids after the algae’s lipid content was first analyzed using a staining method. Furthermore, the protein and carbohydrate content of the algae was examined. Based on rapid growth, twelve out of the twenty-eight microalgae strains were selected for further research. According to the findings, the lipid content of the algae ranged from 10.0% to 37.77%, with the IndA1 strain having the greatest percentage (37.77%). Protein levels in the algae ranged from 16.32% to 31.33%, while carbohydrate levels ranged from 11.20% to 25.11%. These results show the potential of local microalgae, particularly the IndA1 strain to be utilized in biodiesel production owing to its significant lipid content. By optimizing the conditions for algae growth, we can boost both biomass and lipid production, making them a valuable resource for sustainable biofuel production and other industrial applications.
