PUBLIC LEISURE SPACES IN THE CITY OF FEZ: A SPATIAL APPROACH USING GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS

This study aims to analyze the spatial distribution characteristics of public leisure spaces in the city of Fez. We conducted a field inventory and located various types of these spaces and identified approximately 2,400 leisure spaces throughout the city. Using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) tools, we converted the obtained data into maps that indicate the distribution density of these spaces and their spatial localization, categorized according to their function (entertainment spaces, sport spaces, personality development spaces) or level of their radiation (proximity spaces, qualitative spaces). The results showed a large variation in the density of different categories and revealed the existence of major urban centralization represented by the new city center, where the concentration rises, especially for the qualitative spaces. There are also areas of secondary urban centrality spread across various territorial units of the city.
