Assessment of Jawai Dam Wetland Dynamics in Pali District of Rajasthan, India: Using Remote Sensing and GIS Techniques

Remote Sensing (RS) using satellite imagery has become a prevalent modern technology with a wide range of applications. It enables the observation and analysis of the Earth’s surface, providing valuable insights for disciplines such as environmental monitoring, urban development, agriculture, disaster management, and climate studies. By leveraging advanced imaging techniques, RS allows for efficient data collection over large areas, offering accurate and timely information to support decision-making processes in various fields. The present study analyzes land use/land cover (LU/LC) changes over two periods, highlighting a significant increase in built-up, mining and transportation areas within the catchment area of the Jawai Bandh wetland in Pali district, Rajasthan, India. The Remote Sensing and GIS technique for detecting changes in land use and land cover from 2010-12 to 2018-20 is an invaluable tool for understanding the interaction between human activities and the environment. Consequently, monitoring these changes becomes crucial to track and understand the alterations taking place. The study indicates that integrating satellite remote sensing with GIS proved to be an effective method for analyzing the trajectory, rate, and spatial patterns of land-use change. Rapid industrialization and urbanization in a region necessitate the swift preparation of accurate land use/land cover (LU/LC) maps to identify and prevent excessive exploitation and degradation of the landscape beyond sustainable development limits.
