Indian film costume: An introduction to the Special Issue

This issue is devoted to Indian film costume, with essays on film and fashion design, textile heritage and the crafters of film ‘looks’. With a majority of articles focusing on Hindi language films, the issue nevertheless offers a model for further publication on costume in film industries elsewhere in the subcontinent. The articles’ insights range from masculinity, handicrafts, everyday practice in costume and ‘look’ to costume ageing and the sari in fashion.
