Краеведение в 1950-х гг. на Чукотке: значимость письменного опроса Н. Н. Дикова
The article analyzes questionnaires on local history compiled by archaeologist N. N. Dikov in Chukotka in the 1950s. In the course of analyzing questionnaires, the author uses archival documents, covering the works of the Chukotka Local Museum and its Director, N. N. Dikov. The archives contain his recommendations to educational institutions. The analysis of recommendations on collecting materials on local history and archaeological findings, of the questions in the questionnaires, and of a brief paper written by N. N. Dikov exposes the general methodological basis for and the sequence of working on local history issues. The respondent-completed questionnaires demonstrated that it was the first written survey of the local population. The answers contain the names of the survey participants who lived in the four regional settlements. Geographical and historical information (camp names, burial types in the area) is presented; as well as data on the Northern peoples ethnography (traditional activities, places of ethnic groups residence, and folklore). The study showed the questionnaires importance for local history. The information from the questionnaires permits to reconstruct events of the Chukotka Museum activities, complements the data on the methods used in its work with educational institution on local studies. The results can be used in historical research, completing the historical references from Chukotka's organizations; information about the respondents will be in demand for family archives.
