Assessment of Direct Seed Yielding Traits in Brassica juncea Using Box Plots and Genetic Analysis Under Normal Vs. Sodic Soils

A comprehensive evaluation of 176 Brassica juncea genotypes was conducted over two years at two distinct locations- Kumarganj and Masaudh- to assess genetic variability, trait stability, and genotype performance under contrasting soil environments. ANOVA revealed highly significant genotypic differences and strong environmental effects, particularly genotype × location interactions, indicating differential trait expression across environments. Kumarganj exhibited superior mean performance and heritability for key agronomic traits, whereas Masaudha demonstrated greater trait stability under stress. High heritability and genetic advance for seed yield-related traits suggested predominance of additive gene action. Genotypes AJ-5, AJ11, CN-105309, and IC-597873 showed consistent performance, while ROHINI contributed to multiple traits. These results underscore the importance of multi-environment, multi-trait selection strategies for identifying high-yielding and stable genotypes to enhance genetic improvement in Indian mustard.
