Floristic diversity of a Grassland community of Khariar in the District of Nuapada, Odisha, India

The floristic diversity of a grassland community of Khariar (20o 15’55.1” N; 82o 45’53.4”E) in Nuapada District was studies during December 2023 to December 2024. The study revealed that the community comprises with 40 numbers of taxa belonging to 33 genera, grouped under 15 families. Among them 12 species were grasses and 28 were non-grasses. The members of the family Poaceae showed dominant (30%) in the community followed by Commelinaceae (12.5%) Cyperaceae, Malvaceae (10%), Amaranthaceae, Asteraceae, Euphorbiaceae, and Fabaceae (5% each) whereas a sharing of 2.5% each was exhibited by the members of the family Acanthaceae, Cleomaceae, Lamiaceae, Nyctaginaceae, Oxalidaceae, Phyllanthaceae and Rubiaceae. This variation in Angiospermic taxa in the grassland communities may vary from time to time depending upon the topography, climatic conditions and biotic interferences of the locality.
