Revision of North American Macratria Newman, 1838 (Coleoptera: Anthicidae: Macratriinae) North of Mexico, with Notes on Some Central American Species

The Macratria Newman, 1838 fauna of North America north of Mexico is reviewed, treating four valid species that are redescribed with a key provided. There are two new synonymies: Macratria confusa LeConte, 1855, new synonym (= Macratria linearis Newman, 1838) and Macratria ovicollis Casey, 1895, new synonym (= Dircaea murina Fabricius, 1801). Lectotypes are designated for D. murina, Macratria brunnea Casey, 1895, M. confusa, and M. linearis. One new species is described from Arizona: Macratria arizonae Chandler, new species. A provisional list of species groups is applied to the North American fauna (including Central America, Mexico, and the Caribbean). Eight of Champion's species from this region, plus the newly reported Macratria fissiceps Champion, 1916 from Colombia, are redescribed with figures provided, and two new species from Costa Rica are described: Macratria herrerai Chandler, new species and Macratria solisi Chandler, new species. New records for two species described by Dmitry Telnov are included.
