Mszaki miasta Świętochłowice (Wyżyna Śląska, Polska) – ekologia i rozmieszczenie

Bryophytes of the city of Świętochłowice (Silesian Upland, Poland) – ecology and distribution. The city of Świętochłowice covers an area of 13 km2 and is located in the central part of the Katowice conurbation, the most densely populated and most industrialized region in Poland. The field research was carried out in 2023-2024, in a grid of 500x500 m squares (according to the ATMOS system). The list of noted bryophyte comprises 132 species, including 11 liverworts and 121 mosses. The largest group consists of very rare species (35% of all). Considering the ecological diversity, the greatest number of taxa was found in terrestrial habitats (61%), a significant number also inhabited a bark of trees (51%). Twenty-five species are under legal protection, 2 are near threatened in Poland and 13 in the Silesian Voivodeship. Particularly noteworthy is the occurrence of some interesting, regionally rare species, as: Anomodon viticulosus, Campylium protensum, Ctenidium molluscum, Frullania dilatata, Hedwigia ciliata, Homalia trichomanoides, Nardia geoscyphus, Syntrichia laevipila, S. latifolia and S. papillosa. The distribution of all species in the city is presented in the form of cartograms.
