The Alinda Garden Power Plant: Energy of Faith and Self-Reliance for the Community
This article presents a case study of the Alinda Garden Power Plant, an off-grid hybrid renewable energy system located in Nong Nam Sai Subdistrict, Sikhio District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, Thailand. With a total capacity of approximately 80.76 kW, the system integrates solar photovoltaic arrays, gel battery storage, hybrid inverters and a Cummins VC-132 diesel generator for backup. Designed to ensure stability, reliability and environmental harmony, the system provides continuous electricity for temples, meditation centers and community facilities in the Buddharaksa Community Forest area. The project emphasizes energy self-reliance, cost reduction and sustainable community development, aligning with the “Buddharaksa” principle of self-sufficiency through wisdom and faith. It demonstrates how local-scale renewable energy projects can empower rural communities to achieve independence from centralized grids while supporting religious, cultural and ecological integrity.
