An Overview on the Role of Armed Forces in the History & Geopolitics of Northeast India during 1941-47
From 1941 to 1947, Northeast India emerged as a critical strategic frontier for British India amidst the geopolitical upheavals of World War II and the subcontinent's march toward independence. This article explores the role of the British Indian Armed Forces and local auxiliary forces in defending the eastern frontier, managing ethnic and political transitions, and laying the foundations for post-independence military and insurgency dynamics. Through an examination of military operations, local collaborations, and the region's socio-political context, this paper provides an integrated understanding of the military and geopolitical transformation of Northeast India during a decisive historical juncture.
