Mathematical Derivation of Cushing's Triad: Revealing the True Mechanism of Pulse Pressure Widening.
We present a mathematical derivation showing that Cushing’s triad results from diastolic pressure reduction rather than systolic elevation. Using energy conservation principles and the de Broglie framework for cerebral hemodynamics, we demonstrate that raised intracranial pressure forces a specific solution where pulse pressure widening occurs primarily through diastolic drop. This explains the consistent clinical observation of systolic pressures around 160-170 mmHg with diastolic pressures of 50-60 mmHg,fundamentally challenging a century of medical teaching.
