Keramatmangal by Selim Al Deen: Combining Political Freedom with Cultural Creation

The fundamental framework for creating a geographical culture is established by the nation's internal political structure. Because the people are no longer subject to colonial exploitation and control, the country has now achieved political independence. Additionally, the opportunity for extending and broadening classical history, tradition, and culture is produced in the formation of indigenous culture. Therefore, the primary factor in establishing a collective sense of national identity in the nation is the issue of cultural building in conjunction with political independence. Playwright Selim Al Deen (1949-2008), who sought the origins of indigenous theatrical sense, wrote about the self-identity crisis among Bengalis as a result of the unfavourable political changes that followed independence and the rise of defeated forces. He had a genuine interest in the country's progress from the complicated and turbulent situation of crisis. In the play Keramatmangal (1985), he depicted the political independence of the Bengali nation within the context of their own culture and the unwavering struggle of the masses to preserve their culture via the actions of two hostages. The goal of this essay is to demonstrate how political independence and cultural construction are related in the play Keramatmangal through the use of an analytical approach.
