SUSTAINABLE TOURISM MANAGEMENT: BALANCING PROFIT AND PLANET
ABSTRACT: The tourism industry is one of the world’s most rapidly expanding sectors and a major driver of economicdevelopment, employment generation, and cross‑cultural exchange. Yet growth often carries significant environmentaland social costs, including habitat loss, resource depletion, and community displacement. Sustainable tourismmanagement has therefore emerged as a framework to align economic success with environmental conservation andsocial equity. This paper synthesizes contemporary research, policy instruments, and international case studies toexamine how sustainable tourism can reduce negative ecological and socio‑cultural impacts while maintaininglong‑term viability.Adopting a multidisciplinary, desk‑based approach, we analyse core concepts, stakeholder engagement, culturalpreservation, equitable benefit‑sharing, and environmental protection and assess the roles of governments, businesses,NGOs, and host communities in shaping ethical travel through legislation, incentives, certification, and education. Weconclude with actionable recommendations to operationalize sustainability without sacrificing profitability. Keywords: Sustainable Tourism, Environmental Conservation, Stakeholder Engagement, Eco‑Tourism, SustainableDevelopment, Tourism Policy.
