AFH* Model (Autopsychic Fold and Horizon) Embodied dual-condition framework with systematic structural convergence testing
SUBBMITED (Neuroscience of Consciousness) Contemporary consciousness science confronts a fundamental challenge: bridgingfirst-person insights about temporal experience with systematic experimental methodology.Traditional approaches emphasize neural correlates while frequently neglectingthe phenomenological foundations that embodied cognition identifies as central to consciousawareness [30, 33]. We present the AFH Model, a neurophenomenological frameworkinvestigating how consciousness might emerge through temporal self-encounterprocesses grounded in sensorimotor coupling and organizational transitions [17].The AFH approach explores whether conscious experience emerges through coordinatedstructural transitions creating critical thresholds (H∗ Horizon), combined withtemporal processing patterns reflecting self-referential loops (Autopsychic Fold) characteristicof lived temporal dynamics. This neurophenomenological architecture integratesexperiential accounts of temporality with systematic experimental methodology, addressing the critical need to operationalize first-person insights within structuredscientific investigation [16, 21].Systematic validation through Eclipse protocols across 153 polysomnographic recordsrevealed comprehensive falsification of initial H∗ Horizon implementations using specificneurobiological variables (F1=0.031–0.037) [29]. These transparent findings illuminatecomplexity requirements for consciousness detection while establishing robustprotocols for evaluating theories within experientially-informed approaches. The frameworkadvances consciousness science by providing falsifiable predictions and structuredmethodology for integrating first-person insights with experimental validation [7]. AlternativeH∗ Horizon configurations and comprehensive dual-condition testing remainopen empirical challenges requiring further investigation. Keywords: embodied consciousness, neurophenomenology, temporal self-encounter,systematic falsification, sensorimotor coupling, lived experience
