Utilizing Sewage Sludge Ash as an Eco-Friendly Filler in Bituminous Mixture

Road construction materials have conventionally relied on non- renewable resources, posing environmental challenges due to their extraction and utilization. However, recent research endeavors have focused on sustainable alternatives to mitigate these issues. Using sewage sludge ash (SSA) as filler in bituminous mixes is one potential approach that can improve the performance of road materials and provide a sustainable waste management solution. This study investigates the viability and advantages of incorporating SSA into bituminous mixes for use in road building, drawing on previous research findings.According to the research, using SSA in bituminous mixes as a partial substitute for traditional fillers shows promise as an environmentally responsible and sustainable method. Research has demonstrated that SSA can provide the advantage of waste reuse while preserving the asphalt’s important qualities. To maximize the usage of SSA in various asphalt mix designs and guarantee long-term performance and environmental safety, more study is required. In these studies the sewage sludge ash (SSA) at weight concentrations of 3% to 4% to evaluate SSA’s effectiveness as filler in bituminous mixes is done. In order to assess the Marshall stability a critical metric that shows how resistant asphalt mixes are to deformation under traffic loads these investigations have to be made with use of several specimens. Through extensive testing, the addition of SSA to traditional bituminous mixes significantly improves how much value of Marshall Stability is to be determined.

Abstract

Road construction materials have conventionally relied on non- renewable resources, posing environmental challenges due to their extraction and utilization. However, recent research endeavors have focused on sustainable alternatives to mitigate these issues.
