Paper 103 Coherence-Constrained Lattice Gauge Theory: Reflection Positivity, Cluster Expansion, and Mass Gap

This paper develops a mathematically consistent modification of lattice gauge theory in which confinement and a mass gap can be proven rigorously. The model starts with the usual Wilson action for SU(3) lattice gauge fields and adds a local “coherence closure” penalty. This penalty enforces geometric closure conditions on three orthogonal plaquettes at each lattice site. Using this construction we prove three key results. First, the model satisfies reflection positivity, which ensures compatibility with standard axioms of quantum field theory. Second, each local coherence term creates a uniform energy threshold that prevents arbitrarily soft excitations. Third, in the strong-coupling regime the model admits a convergent cluster expansion, which leads to an area law for Wilson loops, exponential decay of correlations, and therefore a strictly positive mass gap. Numerical estimates of the expansion coefficients confirm that these results hold not only in the extreme strong-coupling limit but also in a semi-physical parameter range. This places the model in what we call a “superconfining” regime where confinement is especially robust. While this is not a direct solution of the Clay Millennium Yang–Mills problem, it provides a constructive example of a four-dimensional gauge model where confinement and mass generation can be proven with standard mathematical tools. This work shows that adding geometric coherence constraints is a viable mechanism for creating infrared stability in gauge theories.
