On open practices and quality standards of research data in Dataverse UNIMI (with a focus on SSH disciplines)

This presentation explores the University of Milan’s promotion of open practices aimed at improving the quality, through standards and control systems, of research data deposited in the institutional open repository Dataverse, especially in the humanities and social sciences (SSH). It also presents UNIMI's commitment to foster high quality standards for data quality through tools, platforms and interconnetcted initiatives. Amongst these, Dataverse's collaborative workflow and the quality control framework that integrates automated tools alongside validation and FAIRness checks performed by data stewards. Nevertheless, high-quality data, accompanied by comprehensive contextual documentation and readily reusable, cannot be attained without concerted efforts to enhance awareness, provide education, and maintain sustained dialogue with the academic community. Thus, the last section of the presentation highlights these initiatives: such as, the renewal of the RDM website, the opening of an online appointment calendar for virtual consultations, the update of the online trainings and the introduction of practical and discipline-specific workshops, the survey on RDM practices amongst SSH researchers and many more. Last but not least, also the Dataverse trainings dedicated to authors and editors of the Milano University Press, to enhance the association between the published data and its related publication.
