Education and Cellular Technology: Positive and Negative Impacts

Smartphone use is rapidly increasing among youth, especially at Kotli University, where students share daily social activities via smartphones. The objectives of the study were to explore the positive impact on cellular technology in education at university level and to identify the negative impact on cellular technology in education at university level. This study was descriptive by nature and a survey was conducted to collect the data. This study was delimited to all the students of B. Ed (Hons) Elementary Level form University of Kotli AJ&K. The population of the study consisted of all 280 students from Department of Education, University of Kotli, Azad Jammu and Kashmir. A random sampling technique was used to draw the sample from the population. The researchers selected 100 students as a sample to gather the information. A questionnaire based on five-point Likert scale was used to collect data. A questionnaire was developed for students consisting of two portions i.e., Positive impact of cellular technology and Negative impact of cellular technology. Data were collected personally by the researcher after testing its reliability and validity from the sample of the study. The collected data were analyzed through Statical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) in terms of mean, frequency, and percentage. The study revealed that the students perceive a strong connection between cell phone usage and increasing mental health challenges, notably depression and anxiety. It is recommended that the university teachers may hold seminars on the positive uses of cell phones, helping students learn how to utilize them for assignments and research.
