Fandom Tokoh Agama di Era Digital: Antara Spiritualitas, Popularitas, dan Tantangan Etis

AbstractThis paper explores the phenomenon of religious figure fandom in the digital era through an interdisciplinary approach combining public theology, Christian ethics, and Gordon Lynch’s correlational and praxis-based theological method. It reveals a shift in the role of religious leaders from spiritual guides to public figures shaped by popular culture, particularly through the concepts of mediapheme and Fear of Missing Out (FOMO). Mediapheme describes how media-driven popularity shapes religious authority, while FOMO highlights the psychological pressure in digital culture that influences religious practice and identity. Using Lynch’s theological framework, the study emphasizes the importance of maintaining theology’s normative, contextual, and dynamic dimensions, urging readers to see popular culture not merely as a challenge but as a transformative space for digital spirituality.
