Reconfiguring Creativity: An Integrated Network Framework Combining the 8P Model and Actor-Network Theory
This preprint proposes the Integrated Creativity Network (ICN), a framework that synthesizes Sternberg & Karami’s 8P model with Actor–Network Theory (ANT) to analyse creativity in human–AI systems. Rather than treating creativity as a property of an individual or a tool, ICN traces how creative outcomes are distributed across people, prompts, datasets, models, interfaces, institutions, and evaluative cultures. The paper: (1) reframes each 8P element (Person, Process, Press, Product, Place, Persuasion, Potential, Propulsion) as a network of actants; (2) operationalises ANT notions of translation, interessement, enrolment, and enactment for creativity research; and (3) offers practical templates for process-tracing in applied contexts (e.g., art practice, photography workflows, generative pipelines). Case vignettes from AI-assisted image making illustrate how socio-material configurations shape novelty, value, and reception. We discuss implications for assessing co-authorship, mapping model influence, and designing ethical, transparent creative workflows. The approach aims to bridge theory and practice for researchers and practitioners working at the intersection of creativity studies, STS, and computational arts
