Syed Waliullah's Lalsalu: The Rise of Women Power

Syed Waliullah's famous novel ‘Lalsalu’ is about how a clever religious businessman capitalizes on the simplicity of ordinary people in a religiously devout rural muslim society and uses it as an element of religious business to gain profit. This religious businessman, Majid, takes control of the minds of the village people by promoting himself as supernatural power. He controls the village's religion, education, judiciary, society, culture, personal freedom, politics and even economic matters one by one. The fear and superstition of religious but ignorant people emerge all-consuming crisis in the village, within which Majid finds his existence. But the fearlessness of his teenage wife towards Majid frightens and defeats Majid. This article uses a qualitative research method to examine whether this fearless rise of female power is the means of liberation in this novel, and if so, how it is effective. The results of the study have proven that Majid's second wife, Jamila, threw arrows of disobedience at his power, leading to his downfall, which, as a positive force, created positivity in the consciousness of Majid's loyal first wife, Rahima. Immediately, the direction of the fall of evil forces is found in the novel Lalsalu, which is a prediction of the end of the crisis.
