Decolonisation and regionalism

Our colonial heritage lies not just in the demarcation of national borders; colonial ideas of race and civilisation also underpin the conception of continents and regions. In this context, regionalism today offers the potential to go beyond the regional concepts inherited from imperialism, redefining the experience of space in ways that may depart entirely from the premise of territory.

Abstract

Our colonial heritage lies not just in the demarcation of national borders; colonial ideas of race and civilisation also underpin the conception of continents and regions. In this context, regionalism today offers the potential to go beyond the regional concepts inherited from imperialism, redefining the experience of space in ways that may depart entirely from the premise of territory.
