Transferosomes as a Revolutionary Delivery System for Kojic Acid and Ascorbic Acid in Skin Aging Therapy

ABSTRACT The anti-aging industry is increasingly embracing innovative delivery systems to surpass the limitations of conventional topical formulations. Traditional topical products often struggle with poor penetration, limited bioavailability, and potential skin irritation. Advanced delivery systems offer significant advantages, addressing these challenges and enhancing the efficacy and safety of anti-aging treatments. These systems, including liposomes, nanoparticles, microneedles, hydrogels, and electroporation, are designed to improve the delivery of active ingredients to target sites within the skin. Liposomes, spherical vesicles composed of lipid bilayers, encapsulate active ingredients, protecting them from degradation and facilitating their penetration through the stratum corneum. Nanoparticles, with their small size and unique properties, enhance drug delivery and can be tailored for targeted release. Microneedles create microscopic channels in the skin, bypassing the stratum corneum barrier and allowing for deeper penetration of active ingredients. Hydrogels, water-rich polymer networks, provide a hydrating environment and can be used to deliver a variety of anti-aging agents. Electroporation utilizes electrical pulses to temporarily disrupt the skin's barrier, enhancing the transdermal delivery of drugs and cosmeceuticals. These innovative delivery systems offer improved bioavailability, enhanced stability of active ingredients, targeted delivery to specific skin layers or cells, and increased patient compliance due to their ease of use and reduced irritation. Current research efforts are focused on further refining these technologies, exploring nanotechnology and biomimetic approaches, developing combination therapies that utilize multiple delivery systems or active ingredients, and moving towards personalized medicine, where treatments are tailored to individual skin characteristics and needs. These advancements promise to revolutionize the anti-aging market, leading to more effective and targeted treatments for a wide range of age-related skin concerns.
