Quantifying Soil Microbiome Resilience to Extreme Weather Events Using a Hybrid Bayesian Network and Spectral Analysis Approach for Enhanced Environmental Impact Assessments
**Abstract:** Traditional Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) insufficiently address the long-term, cascading effects of extreme weather events (EWEs) on soil health and, consequently, ecosystem function. This paper introduces a novel framework, **Soil Resilience Quantification via Integrated Spectral and Bayesian Analysis (SR-QIBSA)**, which quantitatively assesses soil microbiome resilience to EWEs, significantly enhancing the predictive power of EIAs. SR-QIBSA integrates spectral analysis of soil biogeochemical proxies with a hybrid Bayesian Network (HBN) to model complex microbiome interactions and predict performance under varying EWE scenarios. This methodology allows for a more nuanced understanding of vulnerability and enables proactive mitigation strategies. We anticipate this approach to improve EIA rigor by 30-40% and offer actionable insights for climate adaptation planning, potentially impacting the $15 billion global environmental consulting market.
