The Relationship Between Social Media Use Intensity and Physical Activity with Mental Health of Eighth Grade Students at Bambanglipuro 1 Public Junior High School
This study aims to examine the relationship between social media usage intensity and physical activity with the mental health of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Bambanglipuro. Using a quantitative correlational design, the research involved 154 students selected through cluster random sampling from a population of 252 students. Data were collected using a social media usage questionnaire, the Physical Activity Questionnaire for Adolescents (PAQ-A), and the General Health Questionnaire-12 (GHQ-12), and analyzed using multiple regression. The results revealed a significant positive relationship between social media usage and mental health (r = 0.457, p < 0.05), a significant negative relationship between physical activity and mental health (r = -0.496, p < 0.05), and a significant simultaneous relationship between both variables and mental health (F = 43.709, p < 0.05), with a combined contribution of 35.80%. These findings suggest that both social media usage and physical activity significantly influence students' mental health and should be considered in efforts to promote adolescent well-being.
