WC13 poster: "New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) for the understanding the impact of endocrine disruptors in the framework of the HYPIEND project"

Endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) are substances that mimic, block or interfere with hormones in the body's endocrine system. They have been linked to numerous adverse human health outcomes, including the abnormal function of the hypothalamus-pituitary (HP) axis, a complex system of neuroendocrine pathways and feedback loops essential to maintaining physiological homeostasis. Alteration of the HP axis is especially relevant in the early stages of life because it can cause developmental alterations, psychosocial difficulties, and behavioural disorders. The objective of the Horizon Europe HYPIEND project is to understand the effects of EDCs co-exposure on the function of the HP axis by combining different New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) together with animal and interventional studies aimed to minimize the exposure and the consequences of EDCs on the neuroendocrine system during the perinatal and pre-pubertal stages.
