Industrialização e organização "racional" do trabalho: o papel do Instituto de Organização Racional do Trabalho (IDORT)

This article aims to analyze the importance of the Instituto da Organização Racional do Trabalho (IDORT, a Brazilian rational labor organization institute), founded in 1931, as an industrial bourgeoisie’s proposition to carry out Taylorism in Brazil, built, according to that class, within scientifically considered frameworks. Its core concept was to spread taylorist principles of productive management imposed on peripheral countries by the imperialist Capitalism. IDORT would be crucial for new emerging structures and power relations in order to break down workers’ autonomy, as facing workers’ world views, who underwent the early 20th century’s revolutionary ferment. In this new facet of the class struggle, in which scientism was the fundamental component to face workers’ organizations, scientifically considered methods imply measures against the working class who fought for better working and living conditions. Through “scientific” management, still absent in Brazil’s development of capitalist mode of production during the 1930’s, an attempt had been made to objectively establish production times combined with work methods imposed by Brazilian industrial bourgeoisie.
