From Nilavilakku to Jet Engines: Unveiling Hidden Parallels in Energy Flow, Symbolism, and Engineering Design
Though separated by centuries and purpose, the Nilavilakku of Kerala and the modern Jet Engine are united by the same underlying design principle, a system built for continuous combustion and sustained energy flow. The Nilavilakku, with its steady flame nurtured by oil and wick, mirrors the jet engine’s regulated burning of fuel to produce thrust. Both are engineered one by tradition, the other by modern science to transform fuel into a stable stream of usable energy. Beyond their surface differences, this study reveals how cultural artifacts and advanced machines converge in design logic, offering a perspective where heritage and technology speak the same language. By highlighting this shared foundation, the work explores how traditional systems can illuminate pathways toward future innovations in sustainable energy and engineering.
