Preservation of Digital Heritage: An overview
Abstract The safeguarding of digital heritage has emerged as a crucial concern in the era of digital technology, as communities produce and depend on an increasingly diverse array of both digitized and born-digital materials. This paper investigates the complex field of digital preservation by analyzing the various forms of digital heritage, significant preservation obstacles, and successful approaches such as migration, emulation, and metadata standards. It underscores the essential contributions made by libraries, archives, museums, and global entities like UNESCO and the Digital Preservation Coalition. The paper explores the real-world applications of digital preservation frameworks. The research concludes that effective and inclusive digital preservation necessitates collaborative international efforts, clear legal guidelines, and ongoing innovation to secure long-term access to the global digital cultural memory.
