Ritu Menon's "Borders and Boundaries": A Case Study on Violence, Displacement and Settlement in the Process of Partition from a Gender Perspective
Partition literature" refers to the literary works produced when two independent nations, such as India and Pakistan, split apart in 1947. The Partition of two countries led to several negative issues, which had emotional, political, and societal effects. The issues including mass violence, displacement, and the creation of a new border. The study focuses on the status of women during and after the division of the two nations. In order to address the research issues regarding women's status during and following the divide, the study closely adhered to the writings of "Borders and Boundaries" by Ritu Menon and Kamala Bhasin. In particular, this book explores the position of women in relation to various subjects, including intersectionality, personal boundaries, cultural boundaries, and geopolitical borders. The book further emphasizes the feelings of women during the division. Women were seen as champions who could combat injustice and exploitation rather than merely as victims. Consequently, the research provides an in-depth analysis of the roles that women played throughout the division.
